Childhood Reading Support helps educate parents to better understand foundational literacy by providing suggestions for high-quality resources for young children and practical ways to engage with these tools at home. This builds confidence that their child will be ready for the rigorous expectations of kindergarten.
Joanna has twenty-five years of experience in the education field. She spent the first decade of her career teaching second grade and then worked as a Literacy Specialist supporting early readers with foundational skill development. Joanna has spent the last 10+ years working in schools across the country to support literacy capacity building with school leaders, teachers, and parents. She is skilled at modeling and demonstrating strategies for adult learners to enhance understanding of evidence-based best practices for reading development.
Joanna obtained her BA in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from The University of Northern Iowa and a MSW from The University of Southern California, concentrating in Social Change and Innovation.
As the founder of Childhood Reading Support she provides literacy consulting, digital resources, and differentiated coaching services for parents. Joanna brings a wealth of literacy knowledge, her coaching expertise, and a passion for learning to her work with parents.
Digital resources are considered a Tier 1 low support service. You can independently navigate these specially curated resources for children ages 3-5.

A parent consult is a Tier 2 mid support service. With this 30 minute service, our partnership is initiated, which includes personalized guidance and tailored advice. A consultation will allow for you to:
~talk about your child
~share goals for your child
~share your personal goals
~ask any questions
~learn growth expectations
~get a ‘milestones checklist'
~get suggestions for next steps
An individualized coaching session is a Tier 3 high support service and is scheduled as an ad hoc. This virtual 50 minute service is for parents who want a thought partner in accomplishing at-home literacy goals for their child. This virtual 50 minute service is for parents who want a thought partner in accomplishing at-home literacy goals for their child. Coaching sessions are focused on parent support activities that are specific to their child, with a range of activities the coach and parent can focus on.
Activities may include:
~pacing and planning guidance
~problem solving
~check-ins on implementation
~role plays
~demonstrations with your child
~monitoring for progress
~identifying next steps
Group parent network sessions are also offered as an ad hoc.
